Community Service

Last week Thursday we went for our first field trip. Our school does Community Services for 45 minutes on Thursdays. Most of the classes do things for the school itself, like painting, planting or building things. I had noticed that a lot of teachers hold onto things here way past when they should. There is little opportunity to buy things here that you can normally get in the US. So people keep stuff "just in case". The problem with that is everything gets moldy and covered with dust pretty quickly. For example a lot of papers in files inside filing cabinets have rust marks on them because paper clips rust prety quickly.
I decided my class would collect stuff from the campus that people were just letting get all old and moldy. We ended up collecting about 50 posters and 5 boxes of educational "stuff". Richard, the 3/4 classroom aide, helped us to find St. Joseph's Catholic School. He first went to a government school, but got the impression they would just try to sell the stuff when they told him my class didn't need to go there, just give them the supplies. These pictures are of the school's headmistress in her office and of some of the students that had an assembly for us.
